Patchogue Kiwanians
Host Children's Christmas Party
Over
25 Patchogue Kiwanis related children were guests at the Suffolk
Boat Club. The children played games and then received gifts from
Santa Claus who pleased most of the children and terrified a few.
All were treated to a sumptuous buffet and the
evening was an outstanding success for all who attended.
Patchogue Kiwanis Completes 5K Santa’s Toy Trot

Runners from a far away as Boston competed on Sunday, Dec 4th
on a 5K course which started on Jennings Ave in front of the
Patchogue Fire Department, meandered up and down various streets
around West Lake and then finished where it started on Jennings. The
field was the largest in the history of this annual race sponsored
by the Kiwanis Club of Patchogue. Part of the entrant fee for the
race was a toy for a needy child. Almost 1000 toys were
donated by the runners and packaged by the Patchogue Medford High
School Key Clubs and Venture Crew for distribution to needy children
in the Greater Patchogue area. Volunteers who assisted in the event
all received special Santa’s Helper shirts. They packed the toys at
the BrickHouse Brewery which helped in the sponsorship of the race.
Proceeds of the event will be used by the Kiwanis club on its
sponsored youth programs and children’s community needs projects.

Patchogue Kiwanis Joins Patchogue Christmas Parade
Sporting
a new frame upon which to build the club’s traditional “Santa’s
Sleigh Float , workers in the Club reconstructed it with safety in
mind. Kiwanian’s children jumped aboard to give the float a personal
participation while Patchogue-Medford Key Clubbers and Venture
Crewers marched
along side and handed out candy canes to children along the route.
The parade
which traveled down Main Street in Patchogue drew a
record
number of viewers and marching
participants
as well. The building of the float,
the distribution of holiday food baskets and toys to AHRC
highlighted the club’s effort to spread cheer for needy children in
the community. The upcoming
Santa’s 5K Toy Trot will add hundreds of more toys for these
children.

Kiwanis and Key Clubbers Assemble Holiday Food Baskets
The Patchogue Kiwanis Club, the Patchogue
Medford Key Club and Venture Crew members are shown here in the
auditorium of Emanuel Lutheran Church after they assembled 150 Food
baskets for needy families at Thanksgiving. Kiwanian Chairmen Glen
Charvat directed the assembly of frozen turkeys and other food items
to provide a full meal for needy families in the Greater Patchogue
area.

Patchogue Kiwanis Designates Nicholas Harding, Jr. as Kiwanian of
the Year
Outgoing

shows off his plaque. Mr. Harding’s wife, Lizbett joins him here
enjoying the recognition of service. Nick is a three year member
also serving on the board of directors for two of those years. He
grew up in Bellport where he attended Bellport High School and then
C.W. Post College. Mr. Harding operates HTM Landscaping which he has
owned for 15 years. His passion is racing and has chaired the club’s
running events for the club. He currently is working on the club’s
Santa’s Toy Trot which will be held in Patchogue on December 4th.
Patchogue Kiwanis Club Awards Two Kaiser Fellowships
The
Patchogue Kiwanis Club awarded two Kaiser Fellowships recently at
its 74th Installation Banquet held at Lombardi’s on the
Bay in Patchogue. Making the presentation is outgoing President,
Robert Walch (left) who also received the honor a year ago.
Displaying his Kaiser medallion is Walter Ladick, Jr (next from the
left) who is accompanied by his wife of 48 years, RoseMarie. Walter
is a Past Distinguished President 40 year member of the club and
also a Diamond Hixson Fellowship Awardee. J. Glen Charvat (right) is
a Past Distinguished Past President 20 year member and also a Hixson
Fellowship Awardee. Glen is accompanied by his wife of 44 years,
Cheryl. Not in the picture are the other two Kaiser awardees of the
club, Past President, Ken Picard and the club’s first Kaiser Awardee,
New York District Gov-Elect, Albert E Norato, Jr.. The prestigious
Fellowship which is named after Anton J Kaiser who was a New York
Kiwanis District Governor and then served as President of Kiwanis
International, is a designation awarded after a donation to the New
York District Foundation. It is a source of funds supporting Kamp
Kiwanis and the Pediatric Trauma Centers throughout New York State.
Patchogue Kiwanis Installs New Leadership

installed its slate of officers for the fiscal year of 2011-2012.

Patchogue Kiwanis Joins Fight to Save Lives of Children Around the
World
The Kiwanis Club of Patchogue is joining forces with Kiwanis members
across the globe to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT), a
painful disease that kills one baby every nine minutes, Kiwanis
International is partnering with UNICEF to vaccinate women of
childbearing age. The goal is to raise $110 Million by 2015 which
will ultimately protect 61 million women and their future babies
from the disease contracted through unhygienic childbirth practices.

Patchogue Kiwanis Achieves A Racing Milestone in its Community
Under
the most difficult record breaking weather conditions of 10 inches
of rain, The Patchogue Kiwanis Club successfully completed its 7th
Annual
5K Twilight Trot. The
weather
prevented a large turnout but 250 runners from as far away as New
York City competed in the downpour which soaked runners and workers
alike. Members of the club and their families serviced the
registration tents and also monitored the runners as the runners
sped through Patchogue. Race chairman, Nick Harding oversaw the
entire operation and was later lauded by the Greater Long Island
Racing Club for a fantastic completion of the project under the most
strenuous conditions. Several of the runners had exceptional world
class times and earned extra funds for breaking local course
records. Runners collected $2,600 in class prizes and collected many
trophies and ribbons. The race was part of the prestigious Grand
Prix series under the auspices of the United State Track & Field
organization.
Patchogue Kiwanis Hosts Barbeque For Campers
The
Patchogue Kiwanis Club held its annual Barbeque for Special Needs
kids at Camp Paquatuck, a Rotary facility in East Moriches, Long
Island. Club members cooked for over 125 campers and Kiwanis family
members on a balmy summer evening at the camp. Ken Kasper once again
chaired the event which featured fine food, face painting and a
display of vintage cars. The cars are owned by the Barn Boys who
provide these cars and joined in on the festivities. The annual
event allows the members to relax and also help make the camping
experience a joyful event for all.
Kids Win Patchogue Kiwanis Golf Tournament

Golfers competed at the 47th Annual Patchogue Kiwanis
Invitational Golf Klassic at the Bellport Country Club on a sunny
but delightfully cool June day. Golfers competed on a Texas Scramble
format where they played their own ball after the foursomes best tee
shot. The winning team of Slavin, Mueller, Mazzurco and Scanlon
shot a low net score of 68 and received trophies and gift
certificates for their triumph.
Committee chairman, Robert Lawless hailed the tournament as a
bigger win for the kids the proceeds will support. Besides raising
funds for the club’s child service projects, the club joined in with
the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Long Island who helped turn out
the golfers and earn funds for research. Crohn’s effects many
children on Long Island who are afflicted with the disease. Phil
Muller, a member of the club also serves on the foundations board.
His daughter, Erin, who is troubled with Crohn’s disease worked hard
to get the Foundation’s past supporters to step forward with golfers
and sponsorship contributors. Club President Robert “Sparky” Walch
noted that club volunteers, Glen Charvat, George Hoag, Chris Picini,
Ken Picard, Walter Pepper, Vincent Cartbone, Doug MacVittie,
RoseMarie & Walter Ladick all played a crucial role in the day’s
success.

The race which starts at 6:00PM is a Long Island Track & Field Grand
Prix Series event and is certified by USA Track & Field. The race
will commence at River Walk on Clare Rose Blvd and finishes at
Briarcliffe College after winding through Patchogue streets around
Westlake. The event offers many cash awards for multiple categories.
door prizes and musical entertainment.
Chairman Harding stated that it is a great honor for Patchogue to be
sanctioned as a Grand Prix event and looks for 1,000 participants to
be involved. He indicated that he was hoping that the community
would receive the event with great enthusiasm and cheer on the
runners as they competed through our streets. He added that he hoped
that residents would be considerate and patient while some of the
streets will be closed for a short period of time. Information

used to support Child Service and Community Projects. Patchogue
Kiwanis has been serving the children of the community since
1938.
Runners Brave Chilly Temperature to Compete in St Patrick’s Parade
“May the Road Rise to Meet Ye 4 Miler”
200 Runners turned out in chilly weather to compete in a 4 Mile run
on Sunday March 27th just prior to the St Patrick’s
Parade in Patchogue. The race route began on East Main Street and
meandered down among various Patchogue streets ending in front of
the Fire House on Jennings Ave. The Run was sponsored by the
Patchogue Kiwanis Club in conjunction with the Village and the
Chamber of Commerce.
Volunteers included Kiwanis families, Key Clubbers and Venture Crew
from Patchogue Medford High School and Key Clubbers from Bellport
High School. Winning times were posted by Brendan Barrett of
Sayville in the Male Division with a time of 22:01.8 and Christa
Morris of Patchogue in the Female Division with a time of 25:373
which was also an event best time. Robert Festa won the Top Law
Enforcement Officer category with a time of 29:066. Several kids
under 14 competed in a ½ mile fun run just after the main race.
Kiwanis Race Chairman, Nicholas Harding who awarded the trophies and
prize money, said the race ran smoothly and was a good preparation
for the Kiwanis Club’s “Twilight Trot” which will be held in
Patchogue on August 14th as a Grand Prix racing event.

Patchogue Kiwanians Celebrate Valentines Day 50 Kiwanians and
friends gathered at the Suffolk Boat Club to sample Italian delights
such as antipasto, stuffed shells, meatballs and cannolis prepared
by Social Chairman, Jim Romeo and his crew. Attendees dined and
danced in a tastefully decorated atmosphere to the background of
romantic songs and oldies. Red Valentine balloons and table
decorations adorned the whole room and set the atmosphere for all
the romantically inclined participants. Kiwanians waited their wives
and significant others with food and good Service to the delight of
all. All violin cases were checked at the door.

73rd Annual Pancake Breakfast a Flippin’ Success
Under the absentee and illness plagued leadership of project
chairman of Edward Hughes, the Kiwanis Club, the Patchogue Medford
Key Club and Venture Crew all joined together to flip Flapjacks,
sell TV Raffle tickets, and auction off Sports Memorabilia. The
breakfast was held in the Patchogue Fire
Department meeting room as a Kiwanis One effort which resulted in
generation of funds for the club’s sponsored youth. McPeak’s
Assisted Living Home provided all the food materials from which were
artfully fashioned and flavorful flapjacks were flipped to the
culinary delight of the attendees. The leadership style of the
chairman is still under scrutiny but the results were outstanding.

Patchogue Medford High School Key Club Raises Funds For St Jude
Children’s Research Hospital
Over
$900 was raised by the Patchogue Medford High School Key Club for
the hospital and convention expenses of the club. The Club sponsored
its 3rd Annual Variety Show with over 30 student participants with
musical performances and dance acts. Shown here is the entire cast
and crew of the event with over 30 participating. Included in the
talent was School Idol winner, Megan Nugent who sang a powerful
rendition of “Everything Is
Coming Up Roses”. Key Club President, Kristina Heiffron, led her
club members by identifying a needy charity and then rallying
everyone into completion of the project. The Key Club School Advisor
is Dr. Robert Borowski who is also a member of Kiwanis. Key Club
International is the largest and oldest high school student service
club in the world. Its mission is to provide opportunities by
providing service, building character and developing leadership. The
Patchogue Medford High School Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis
Club of Patchogue. |

Santa’s
Visit to the Annual Kids Christmas Party
18 Kids were delighted with the appearance of Santa Claus at the
Annual Children’s Christmas Party held upstairs at the BrickHouse
Brewery dining room. President Walch who brought his own crew
expressed delight that eyes of the children brightened at the sight
of Old St Nick. The kids also were treated to some face painting and
cotton candy by two of Santa’s elves. The affair which was hosted by
Frank & Phyllis Virno turned out to be an outstanding success and a
great time was had by all. Special thanks to Ken Picard who was
employed by the Yuletide Actors Guild in his portrayal of the jolly
guy in the red coat and pants. A special appearance of some
extremely tiny new arrivals added to the joy of the evening as well.

Santa’s Patchogue Kiwanis 5K Toy Trot
Over 400
Runners from as far away as Wappingers Falls, NY participated in the
Patchogue Kiwanis 5K Toy Trot on Sunday Dec 5th. The race started and
finished in front of the Patchogue Fire Department. The administration
of the race and award ceremonies were conducted at the BrickHouse Brewery. Presenting the
awards to the fastest runners is (from the left) Patchogue Kiwanis
President, Robert Walch and receiving their awards is Lenora Petrina
and Chris Mammone with Santa joining the festivities. Lenora Petrina,
28, of Bayport ran a time of !6:34.6 while Chris Mammone of Massapequa,
27, ran a time of 15:51.2. Both times were exceptionally fast.
Participants brought toys as part of their entrance fee. The toys were
wrapped by the Bellport High School and Patchogue Medford High School
Key Club’s along with the assistance of the Patchogue Medford
High School Venture Crew 1776.Toys were then distributed among local
churches for further distribution to children of needy families.
Kiwanis Toy Trot Chairman, Nicholas Harding, Jr. expressed great
satisfaction for the Trot’s largest turnout and with the receipt
of over 400 toys.

Kiwanis Sponsors Christmas Parade Float
On
a very chilly evening, Kiwanians, Member’s Children, Key Clubbers
and Venture Crewers joined together to ride on a float built by the
club as one of over 90 floats, bands and marching groups in the Village
of Patchogue’s Annual Christmas Parade- Under the leadership of
Chairman, Robert Albinowski, a float in the shape of a giant sleigh was
assembled and decorated. Christmas music was provided by members of a
band on the float playing Christmas Carols to the delight of thousands
of viewers lining Main Street in the Village.

Kiwanians and their Ladies attended a Kiwanis Education
Night on a regular meeting night at the BrickHouse Brewery. After a
cordial cocktail hour each wife was presented with a long stem rose and
dinner in appreciation for the support they provided while their
Kiwanians attended to projects serving the community needs of the
Greater Patchogue Area’s children. A power point presentation
similar to the one made to new Kiwanians being inducted was used to
more acquaint them to the work the club does. It was a lovely meeting
to thank the lovely wives of Kiwanis. The event was chaired by Past
President ,Paul Vaas who did his usual great job.

Suffolk County Key Club leadership training rally held jointly at the
Patchogue Medford High School for the incoming officers of the 20 Key
Clubs in the three divisions in Suffolk County. Key Clubs are a
Sponsored Youth organization of Kiwanis International. Members consist
of high school students in 24 countries. The rally was hosted by the
Patchogue-Medford High School Key Club which is sponsored by the
Kiwanis Club of Patchogue.

25th Annual Patchogue Oktoberfest
an Outstanding Success
The
Patchogue Kiwanis Club sponsored its 25th Annual
Oktoberfest at the Greek Church in Port Jefferson where it hosted 400
participants who traveled from as far away as New Jersey and
Connecticut. Music was supplied by Die Schlauberger, a group which
features traditional German songs with an added flavor of modern dance tunes. J&R’s restaurants supplied the
food which featured Sauerbraten, Bratwurst, Red Cabbage and Sauerkraut.
A variety of Oktoberfest beverages complimented the cuisine. Dancers
adorned in traditional costumes added an authentic Oktoberfest
atmosphere. Proceeds of the event were targeted for use to provide over
150 Holiday Food Baskets and Toys for Children at Christmas.

Mission
Receiving a check for $8,250 from the
Patchogue Kiwanis Club is Wendy Wood (center) Communications
Coordinator of the Lighthouse Mission in Bellport. Holding the check on
the left is Jeffrey Vollmuth, Past President of the Patchogue Kiwanis
and on the right is current President, Chris Picini. The funds were
raised by the Kiwanis Club with the assistance of Tom Perna of AVR
Realty. The Lighthouse Mission which is run by Pastor James Ryan
provides food to families and children in need, currently 7% of Suffolk
County.

Kiwanis Tri Club Golf Challenge

The Tri Club
challenge was made to Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs of eastern Long Island who all participated in the event.
The tournament raised funds to support the Crohn’s & Colitis
Foundation, and Child Service activities of the club. Culminating a
perfect weather day, the tournament raised over $13,000 with
over 80 golfers in attendance. Co-Chairmen Lawless and Picini doubled
the proceeds from the previous year and increased attendance by 50%, a
stellar accomplishment in a difficult economy. Support by non golfing
member volunteers help contribute to the success of the event.

Kiwanis Kicks Off Koin Kans For Kids Kampaign
In order to
raise funds for sending Kampers to Kamp, the club has purchased 50 kans
to be distributed to retail establishments where change is generated by
patrons at a register. Kamp Kiwanis lacked sufficient kampers last
summer to cover expenses. With the construction of the Patchogue
Kiwanis Kabin, it is essential that the Patchogue club help assure the
season with the maximum kanmpers possible.

Kiwanis Charitable Foundation draws a Lucky Ticket from its Annual
Sweepstakes Drawing. With a $20,000 proceed, it promises to help fund
the Club’s Charitable Projects for Children. Shown here is Club

Sponsors 5K Twilight Trot
On Sunday, July 25th,
the run commenced and ended in front of the Patchogue Firehouse on
Jennings Ave. Members of the Patchogue Kiwanis and the Patchogue
Medford Key Club monitored the USATF certified 5K route and
provided water to the runners. Patchogue Kiwanis Race
Chairman, Nick Harding awarded
prizes to Audra Zakar (left) of Miller Place who won the women’s
competition and Eric Haun (right) of Bayport who won the men’s
competition. Over 115 runners participated in this run at thirteen age
levels with proceeds going to Child Service Projects sponsored by the
Patchogue Kiwanis Club. Patchogue EMS volunteers stood by for
contingent emergencies. Also noteworthy is the fact that Chairman
Harding recently participated in the Empire State Olympic Games where
he placed 4th in the RaceWalking competition.

Patchogue Kiwanis Hosts a BBQ for 120 Campers at Camp
Paquatuck
Annually,
members of the Patchogue Kiwanis hold a lakeside barbeque for
participants of Camp Paquatuck, a Rotary Camp in near by Moriches, Long
Island New York. The camp which is similar to Kamp
Kiwanis in Taberg, New York allows a local hands-on interaction with
members of the Kiwanis Club. In addition, the Barn Boys, a local club
which restores classic cars, displayed their vehicles for the campers
to inspect and enjoy. Under the chairmanship of Kiwanian Kenneth
Kasper, 25 members and their families prepared and served Kielbasa and
Steak to the campers and their councilors. Two 50 year members joined
the party and enjoyed a special treat of Root Beer floats. The
Patchogue Kiwanis Club also sent 11 local kids to Kamp Kiwanis. Last
year, the Patchogue Club completed construction of a cabin at Kamp
Kiwanis allowing a greater experience for campers from all over the New
York District.

Flipping Flapjacks
Patchogue Kiwanis scores points with
its Annual Pancake Breakfast held Sunday, January 30th at the Patchogue
Fire Department. The event was chaired by Eddie Hughes and Frank Virno.
Assistance was provided by the members of the Patchogue Medford High
School Key Clubs and the Venture Crew. The funds from the event are
directed for the support of the club’s sponsored youth projects.

Patchogue Club Awards Anton Kaiser Fellowship

Twenty Two year member and Vice President Elect of the Patchogue
Kiwanis Club is shown here receiving the prestigious Anton Kaiser
Fellowship from the Patchogue Kiwanis Club. On the left is Past
President, Kenneth Picard who conducted the ceremonies and on the right
is Christopher Picini, President of the club. The Anton Kaiser
Fellowship is sponsored by the New York District Foundation. Mr. Kaiser
served as New York District Governor and then as President of Kiwanis
International in 1978-79. The award is the cornerstone of the
foundation which funds charities such as Kamp Kiwanis and the Pediatric
Trauma Centers in New York State. Kiwanis is a global organization of
volunteers dedicated to changing the world one community and one child
at a time.

Rise To Meet Ye 4 Miler
The Patchogue
Kiwanis Club attracted 100 runners from as far as Washington DC, by
sponsoring a 4 mile run moments before the start of the Annual St
Patrick’s Parade sponsored by the Village of Patchogue and the
Patchogue Chamber of Commerce. The run commenced at Finest Fitness on
East Main Street and proceeded westerly through commercial and
residential streets and then finished in front of the Patchogue Fire
House. In addition, there was a ½ Mile Fun Run in which Kids
under 9 competed. Turning points were monitored by Patchogue Kiwanians,
Patchogue Medford High School Key Clubbers and Venture Crew, and also
by Bellport High School Key Clubbers. Patchogue Kiwanis Race Chairman,
Nick Harding awarded prizes to the Winner of the Women’s Overall
category, Mandie Samuels, of Washington DC with a time of 26 minutes
and 6 seconds and the Winner of the Men’s Overall category, Dan
McGrath of Lynbrook with a blazing time of 20 minutes and 29 seconds.

Club Gathers Toys
The Patchogue
Kiwanis Club and the Patchogue Medford Key Club joined in with the
BrickHouse Brewery’s Annual Toy Trot to raise funds and gather
toys for needy kids at Christmas. Annually, the BrickHouse Brewery
sponsors a 5K Run and as part of the admissions fee for participants
requires a gift toy. The Key Clubbers wrap and classify the toys by age
and sex for delivery to churches in the community for distribution to
the needy children. This year over 100 runners participated under the
guidance of the Bohemia Running Club. While the Key Clubbers wrapped
the gifts, the Kiwanians manned the roads for safety and guidance for
the runners. Good weather conditions prevailed for the runners and the
program was considered a success.

Holiday Parade
The Patchogue
Kiwanis, Patchogue Medford High School Key Club and the Patchogue
Medford High School Venture Crew join together to march in the
Patchogue Annual Holiday Parade. Each year the Patchogue Kiwanis Club
reconstructs and decorates its float to participate in this gala event.
Over 70 floats built by Community organizations plus dozens of
volunteer fire departments all gathered together to thrill young and
old parade watchers along Main Street in Patchogue. This years theme
was Charlie Brown and his sidekick Snoppy. Santa Claus highlighted the
event with his appearance on the last float. Float chairman, Robert
Albanowski, said that this year the building and parading of the float
attracted the largest turnout of Kiwanis Family participants.

Patchogue Kiwanis Hosts Thanksgiving Dinner
Members of the
Patchogue Kiwanis Club gathered with their families and Patchogue
Medford Key Clubbers on Thanksgiving Day to cook and serve some of the
community’s needy a full Thanksgiving Dinner at the BrickHouse
Brewery where the Kiwanis meets weekly. The Patchogue Medford Key Club
joined in on the event by waiting on the tables and serving the
participants needs while the Kiwanians manned the kitchen and welcomed
the guests. They all took rotational shifts working through the day
giving up personal time to help. (Picture 1) from the Left, Kiwanis

Thanksgiving
Baskets for The Needy
The
Patchogue Kiwanis Club joins with its Patchogue Medford High School Key
Club to assemble 100 food bags for needy families in the Greater
Patchogue area. The baskets included a turkey with all the fixings.
Here the assembly crew under the direction of chairman, Glen Charvat,
shows off a couple completed bags as a sample of its work. Also, the
Patchogue Club hosted needy people for Thanksgiving Dinner at the
Brickhouse Brewery Restaurant where the club meets. The club strives to
work jointly with its sponsored youth to instill the spirit of serving
the community one child at a time.

The Patchogue Kiwanis Club inducts a
new Hixson Fellow into Patchogue’s Court of Hixson Fellow
Recipients
George
Brush is shown here receiving his plaque and ribbon
as the 17th Hixson fellow in the Patchogue Club. Mr. Brush who
has been a Kiwanian for 21 years and is a Past President and currently
director of his club, earned his honor with strong and reliable
service. The award was presented to him by Diamond Hixson Fellow,
Walter Ladick Jr. and the other Hixson fellows of the club. Observing
the proceedings from the left in the back row are also Hixson Fellow
Past Presidents, Glen Charvat, Jeffrey Vollmuth, Edward Hughes, Angelo
Tarantino, Paul Vaas, George Hoag and Thomas Keegan, Jr.. The ceremony
took place at Patchogue’s installation banquet held at
Lombardi’s On the Bay.

Patchogue Treats Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck to Annual Barbecue
Patchogue
Kiwanians under the leadership of Ken Kasper hosted the
campers at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck to a Steak & Kielbasa dinner in
Moriches. Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is a local Rotary Camp for disabled
children. This year besides building a new Cabin at Kamp Kiwanis
in Taberg, New York, the Patchogue Club sponsored 8 Kampers there
and provided its annual foodfest at the Rotary Camp.

New
Cabin
Dedicated
During the Kamp Kiwanis Open House on June 6, the Kamp's newest cabin,
sponsored by the Patchogue club, was dedicated.
At last year's open house the cabin's future
site was noted, but the building is now virtually complete and will be
ready for use by kampers this summer.
District Foundation President Sal Anelli
thanked the Patchogue club for its follow-through on its commitment to
fund the construction of the cabin, and the many volunteers from
Patchogue and elsewhere who assisted with its construction.

is the cabin, wrapped in a red ribbon for the event.
The lieutenant governors for 2009-10 and Gov.
Elect David Booker also gathered for their first meeting over the
weekend and participated in the open house.

finished and dedicated a cabin for campers at Kamp Kiwanis in Taberg,

Venturing
Leadership Award recipient Robert Borowski receives his award for
exceptional service to Boy Scouts, Venturing and for outstanding
service to the youth of the community. It is only the third such award
made by the Suffolk County Council since Venturing started in 1998.
Presenting the award from the left is Joe Gallagher, Suffolk County
Executive of the BSA and on the right is Andy Calev, VP Program, SCC
BSA. Mr. Borowski is the advisor to the Venture Crew 1776 at the
Patchogue Medford High School which is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of
Patchogue. In addition, Mr. Borowski serves as advisor for the
Patchogue Medford Key Club. Mr. Borowski is a member and on the board
of directors of the Patchogue Kiwanis which also sponsors the Patchogue
Medford High School Key Club.

70 Years of
Service Celebrated at Annual Charter Night
Shown here are
Legion of Honor recipients being recognized for their years of
dedication and service. Murry Rosenblatt and Vitro Rizzing received
recognition for 50 years and Charlie Falkner for 45 years. Vito and
Charlie were not able to attend the event but it was a great evening
recalling years gone by. Murray and Kathy flew in from Chicago to join
the festivities. Thanks to them both for their extra efforts.

Furniture for
the Pediatric Unit Family Waiting Room at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital
Trying out a rocking chair is Past President of Patchogue Kiwanis and
Past Board Chairman at BMHMC, Walter Ladick, Jr.. Looking on from
behind is Patchogue Kiwanis President, Angelo Tarantino. On the right
of Mr. Ladick is Tammy Cornacchiulo, a registered nurse in the
Pediatric Unit. She was responsible for initiating awareness of a need
for a new appearance with new furniture and curtains. The walls of the
room are painted with a bright and colorful country scene provided by
the Splashes of Hope art group. Electronic games and a library of
children’s books are provided for the families who are visiting a
pediatric patient. Looking on from behind is a contingency of Patchogue
Kiwanis members who helped in providing the funds for the purchase of
special furniture and equipment required for the room. The
Patchogue Kiwanis Club has provided nearly $500,000 in assistance for
the Pediatric Unit since the club’s chartering of the 321 bed
hospital in 1954.

casual but fun time at the Suffolk Boat Club. Each lady received a long
stem red rose and a door prize of a gift certificate to Pine Grove Inn
was raffled. The event left a good taste of relaxed fun and camaraderie
