Patchogue Kiwanis Brings Christmas to The Kids
Pictured from Left to Right: First Vice Pres. Frank P. Virno, Jr., Board Member Brian Kieffer, SANTA, President Ken Picard, President Elect Ed Hughes, AHRC Director Phyllis Beckerman, and Dist. Past Pres. Paul Vaas. The Kiwanis Club of Patchogue brought a little bit of Christmas joy to the students of AHRC in Hauppauge. Each year the Patchogue Club takes groups of AHRC students to The Long Island Game Farm for a day of adventure and fun. This year's trip to the game farm was cancelled due to the events of Sept. 11th and concerns for the children's safety at that time. After much discussion with Phyllis Beckerman, Director of AHRC, The Patchogue Club decided to use the money that would have been spent on the LI Game Farm trip to have a Christmas Party for the students of AHRC and provide interactive toys to each of the classrooms at AHRC. This looks like the beginning of a new tradition for the Kiwanis Club of Patchogue. The Patchogue club has been very active with the AHRC (Association for the Help of Retarded Children) program for many years. In the past the club has funded and built an "Interactive Playground" for the AHRC students, helped to start the Move Curriculum by donating training and equipment to AHRC and each year the club sponsors a trip to the Long Island Game Farm for students of AHRC.
